ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

IN OUR VALUE CHAIN

VAVA is working with our suppliers to help them reduce emissions, manage resources efficiently and alert them to the need to adapt to the impacts of climate change. And we do this in a way that benefits the whole community.

We promote continuous improvement in processes, products and services by identifying, monitoring and mitigating environmental risks connected to our activities, with the aim of reducing negative impacts on climate, air, water, soil, biodiversity, land and communities.

These are all areas that we are currently refining and future reports will give a clearer perspective on this matter.

VAVA knows that he transportation of our final product from the warehouse to our customers is a major contributor to our CO2 emissions, which need to be reduced. In trying to overcome this challenge, we changed out approach towards logistics and distribution.

In 2020, VAVA started to use DHL GoGreen Climate Neutral Services, which allows us to offset our emissions. The service contributes 0,10 Euro per kilogram delivered in every international shipment to environmental protection and emission reduction projects.

VAVA is inspired by the ways in which circular economy principles can help us on our decarbonisation journey and as a result, we have integrated more recycled content and eliminated all single-use plastics from our products.

VAVA truly believes in the urgency of forgetting the old paradigm of a linear economy, where raw natural resources are taken, transformed into products and then disposed of. Ultimately, one of the proposals of a circular economy model is to close the gap between the cycles of production and ecosystems cycles – on which humans depend upon.

IN OUR PACKAGING

VAVA consciously analyses the environmental impact of our designs at every stage of our creative process: We are constantly looking for more efficient and sustainable solutions and we continuously strive to consume less and less energy during the creation of our products.

We believe that our packaging represents a clear opportunity to be more sustainable. This journey requires all of us to question everything we do and how we do it, constantly improving and endeavouring to improve our ecological footprint. VAVA shares global concerns about the effects of single-use plastic on the planet.

VAVA knows that we can be always be better, and we regularly embrace alternatives which are kinder to the planet. For example, our frames are now wrapped in fine paper and packed with reused material coming from our suppliers, and these materials can be also reused by you. We believe that materials should be repurposed as much as possible before finally being recycled.

We choose to use a 100% natural silk paper, which has replaced all single-use plastics. This paper has obtained ISO 535, ISO 1924-1 and ISO 287 standards.

All of our glasses come with an ultra-slim case, made up of materials of which 50% are sourced from recyclable rubber, created from industrial waste.

IN OUR PRODUCT

We are proud that VAVA eyewear is high quality and long-lasting and we always consider the planet by trying to use more sustainable materials in our products. We believe that for a conscious future, a world of high-tech solutions which leverage all technological possibilities and environmental awareness is a given.

Even during the process of producing our editorial promotional material, VAVA is constantly aware of the need to reduce our environmental footprint. This book has been developed in conformity with the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which is a non-profit dedicated to promoting sustainable forestry. This book is thus made from a mixed paper created entirely from responsible, ethical and sustainable sources.

One of VAVA’s core promises to you is to manage the chemical composition and ethical sourcing of materials used in our products, as well as the chemical impacts in our product manufacturing processes. High-tech materials are at the core of new conscious design, as environmental responsibility is paramount in our 21st century world.

In response, our products are made of the following sustainable materials:

Mazzucchelli M49 acetate, which is eco-friendly, biodegradable and 100% recyclable.

Barberini crystal lenses, which are 100% recyclable and manufactured in zero-waste plants. Barberini was among the first companies in the field to achieve the UNI EN ISO 14001 Environmental Certification, meaning that all its manufacturing plants have zero-waste status.

To produce our hinges, VAVA uses ecological aluminium 6026, which is 100% recyclable.

Selected frames have been created using castor beans which are then 3D printed. This material is a high-quality polyamide bio-based powder, made from a 100% renewable source.

VAVA’s next report will include an in-depth analysis of the sustainability of the business in general, and, of course, the entire supply chain.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Reforestation – ANEFA . Pronatura

VAVA’s commitment on this journey is to not only to care about people, but also to support initiatives and projects that preserve and restore the environment in a myriad of areas such as production of plants, forestry, agriculture and green spaces. Associação Nacional de Empresas Florestais, Agrícolas e do Ambiente (ANEFA) is an emblematic institution in Portugal that acts at a national level, in cooperation with a group of micro-, small- and medium-sized companies in support of agriculture, forests, spatial planning, green spaces and sustainable development of the rural world.

VAVA knows that this it is vital to enable communities and landscapes to adapt to climate change. In order to support this goal, we partnered with ANEFA in the “Pronatura” project, purchasing 1,000 trees that will be planted in October 2021 by VAVA’s team in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
